Presented by Hayes Theatre Co & Bang Bang Rodeo
Musical Bang Bang is the best live musical you’ve never seen.
Why? Because it doesn’t exist yet.
(It’s IMPROV, silly.)
Three years in, and still no script.
Back for its third glorious year of bringing musical improv to Hayes, Musical Bang Bang remains the most unpredictable night you can have in a theatre seat. If you came in 2024. If you came in 2025. Congratulations – you saw a different musical. And you’ll never see it again.
Because it’s improv. Fully, fearlessly, gloriously improvised musical theatre.
A single audience suggestion explodes into a brand-new singing, dancing spectacular – created on the spot by a cast of Sydney’s finest improvisers and some very brave special guests from the top tier of Australian music theatre. Armed with nothing but a piano, a set (whatever happens to be on stage at Hayes), and blind optimism, they ‘yes-and’ their way into a full-blown musical: showstoppers, heartbreak ballads, eleven o’clock numbers, and choreography they absolutely did not rehearse.
Led by actor-comedian Jane Watt (Godspell, Spamalot), this ensemble has built cult status from its early days at The Old Fitz to appearances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Adelaide Cabaret Festival – and now it’s a certified Hayes phenomenon.
Past one-night-only creations (all tragically unrevivable) include Moonbeam The Musical, In-Between The Musical, Gold Mine The Musical and The Magicians’ Society. Each born from Hayes audience suggestions. Each completely different. Each gone forever.
Over the years, the mayhem has featured Julia Zemiro, Virginia Gay, Tom Cardy, Billie Palin, Gabbi Bolt, Erin Claire, Nancy Denis and Brent Hill – alongside a musical director and tech team improvising every cue, chord and lighting snap in real time. No safety net. No do-overs.
So, if you’re wondering whether to come back… Yes.
Because you literally cannot see the same show twice.
