2 Day Musical Challenge
What are you applying for?
As part of our Festival of New Work, the 2-Day Musical Challenge is a high-energy, fast-turnaround creative sprint where four teams will write, rehearse and perform brand-new 20-minute musicals in just 36 hours.
We’re looking for scriptwriters, songwriters, directors and performers to take on the challenge. You’ll be randomly paired up on the day and given a surprise topic to build your show around—then dive straight into creating and staging it for a live audience.
It all happens over one action-packed weekend:

(note that Actors and Directors are only required for Sunday 27 July)

Hayes Theatre Co has always been both a developmental hub for Australian music theatre talent and an engine of new music theatre writing. The Festival of New Work not only give you the opportunity to see the next big thing in musical theatre, but also creates pathways and connections for artists to progress their own creative journey.
Stretching over 2 jam-packed weeks, the festival has something for everyone. With development showcases, conversations with industry titans, masterclasses, readings, concert presentations, industry networking events, and much more.
The Festival of New Work will take place between Monday 14 July to Sunday 27 July.
