Hayes Creative Development

Hayes Theatre Co is passionate about new musicals.  We want to see more of our stories on stage – stories that matter, stories that entertain, challenge and enrich us. We also know that it isn’t easy and that there’s no simple way to bring even the most promising idea to life. To help give new musicals a fighting chance, and to encourage the development of truly original Australian musicals, Hayes Creative Development is proud to offer the following programs: Showlab & Open Submissions. Read on to discover which program your idea is right for.

For independent producers hoping to stage an existing musical please see For Producers.

If you’re an artist interested in submitting an existing show please click through to our Artist Led Program.

SHOWLAB

SHOWLAB is an educational initiative from HAYES CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT, where aspiring writers and composers present an excerpt from their musical to a committee of industry professionals and receive feedback on their work.

SHOWLAB is a full day dedicated to musical theatre writing and composition. All participants are present for the other presentations and feedback seasons with up to 12 musicals presented on the day.

Due to social distancing requirements, this year’s Showlab will be held online with pre-recorded presentations and live feedback streamed simultaneously to all participants

OPEN SUBMISSIONS

We know that the next great Australian musical may be that idea you had at breakfast this morning.
It may be the show you’ve been working on for years but haven’t been able to finish.
It may be a song, a script or a fully written musical that’s had a production and just needs some help to cut through, break out or take off.

We hope that it’s something new, something innovative, imaginative and inspirational.
That it showcases the incredible diversity we have to offer in Australia and has the potential to help us build new audiences for home-grown musicals.

Which is quite a lot to come up with over cornflakes.
