Dames at Sea
Presented by Neglected Musicals in association with Hayes Theatre Co
Book and Lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller
Music by Jim Wise
42nd Street meets Titanique.
Premiered Off-Off Broadway in 1966, making a star of Bernadette Peters.
Dames at Sea is a musical parody of large, flashy 1930s Busby Berkeley-style movie musicals in which a chorus girl, newly arrived off the bus from the Midwest to New York City, steps into a role on Broadway and becomes a star. Think 42nd Street and Gold Diggers of 1933. Dames At Sea has had several productions in Sydney at Marian Street Theatre in 1988 directed by Nancye Hayes and at the Sydney Opera House in 1994.
Featuring the songs ‘Broadway Baby,’ ‘Choo Choo Honey Moon’ and ‘It’s You.’
Neglected Musicals is an initiative dedicated to presenting musical theatre that’s never (or rarely) been seen in Australia. The musicals are presented with scripts in hand and piano accompaniment after only a day’s rehearsal.
