Home Grown
Hosted by Mel & Sam
Home Grown, Australia’s heartland of new musical theatre, is returning to Gadigal for the third and final event of 2024, joining the Hayes Theatre Co’s inaugural Festival of New Work, as Home Grown and the Hayes both celebrate ten years of creativity. Prepare yourself for an evening chock-a-block full of the freshest works from Australia’s most exciting emerging writers and performers. Do not miss the thrill of being present at the birthplace of the future of original musical theatre in Australia.
Home Grown has been a launching pad for amazing performers now thriving in commercial musicals. Among many others are Baylie Carson (SIX, Boleyn; Mean Girls u/s Janice; both West End), Vidya Makan (Hamilton Aus; Eliza & SIX Aus, Parr), Kala Gare (SIX Aus; Boleyn), and Imogen Spendlove (Top 12; 2024 Australian Idol). Not to mention, Home Grown was the very first place “Dead Mom” from Beetlejuice was sung on stage anywhere in the world, EVEN BEFORE THE BROADWAY PRODUCTION!!
Immerse yourself in intimate conversations with the creators themselves as they unveil the context and stories behind the creation of their never-before-heard works, sharing the inspirations that fuel their artistry, and allowing you to engage directly with the creators.
