Murder For Two: Christmas Edition
Book by Kellen Blair and Joe Kinosian, Lyrics by Kellen Blair, Music by Joe Kinosian
Presented by Hayes Theatre Co
Critics told us: “The real crime here is that the season is too short” (Stage Whispers), audiences agreed, and so we listened.
Murder for Two, the musical comedy to die for, is back by popular demand for a return season – in a special Christmas edition! The hilarious and outrageous blend of music, mayhem, and murder gets a festive twist, as two incredible, multi-talented performers once again play 13 roles – not to mention the piano – in a rip-roaring parody of classic murder mysteries and your favourite Christmas stories.
Maverick Newman (“a rocketship, shedding and shifting characters as he soars towards the stratosphere” – Sydney Morning Herald) returns as The Suspects, with musical theatre star Kala Gare (Six, Great Comet) joining the cast as Marcus, exclusively for the Christmas season.
Directed by Hayes’ Co-Artistic Director Richard Carroll (Calamity Jane, Godspell, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), this strictly limited engagement hits the stage from 1 December.
The Story
Officer Marcus Moscowicz is a small-town policeman with dreams of making it to detective. One fateful Christmas Eve, shots ring out at the surprise Christmas-birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney (‘cause he was born on Christmas), and the writer is killed…fatally. With the local detective caught up doing last-minute gift shopping, Marcus jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills—with the help of his silent partner, Lou. Did Dahlia Whitney, Arthur’s scene-stealing wife, poison the eggnog? Or was it the celebrated star of The Nutcracker, Barette Lewis? Whodunit?? You’ll have to come along and find out!
Hear from the Director
“From the moment I first saw this brilliant, inventive and hilarious show, I knew Australian audiences would lap it up. I’m so thrilled the stars have aligned for us to return to its natural home, the Hayes Theatre in December, with this special – even sillier – Christmas edition.”
– Richard Carroll
