Writing is Rewriting (ugh!). How to improve your musical.
A two hour masterclass with Yve Blake (FANGIRLS) about how to get started writing your very own musical.
Hi I’m Yve. Writing a musical tends to take time – and many, many many drafts. But how do you identify what needs to change? This workshop is about just that.
Together, we’ll look at some of the most common notes that new writers get on their debut musicals – and how to address them. I’ll share some of the tricks I’ve learned when it comes to punching up Lyrics, Scenes – and even Melodies, and I’ll do so by showing you how songs and scenes of mine have transformed over many drafts. I’ll share the notes I got – the wrong paths I took – and the finished products too. The workshop will also include plenty of exercises for you to put these tools to work.
We’ll also zoom out and talk about story structure, and ✨dramaturgy✨. How do you decide if a song must be cut, or simply re-written? How do you keep your audience on the edge of their seat? And how do you make them care?
😎 This workshop requires ZERO musical ‘talent’ & ZERO writing experience. 😎
